２月３日は節分の日です。

全国的に豆まきが行われますが、大阪を中心とする関西地方では「恵方巻き」という独特の風習があります。

節分の夜に、恵方（その年の福徳の神が在すると考えられている方角）に向かって目を閉じ、願い事を思い浮かべながら太巻き寿司（恵方巻き）を丸かじりするというものです。

正確な起源は定かではないそうですが、江戸時代に大阪の商人たちの間で商売繁盛の祈願や厄払いの意味合いで始まったといわれています。

その年のラッキー方位である「恵方（えほう）」は、十干に基づき決まります。

今年の恵方は壬（みずのえ）：亥と子の間の方位で、北微西・やや西寄りの北になります。

The word 「節分」 is usually uesd to mean the division between winter and spring. It takes place Feb. 3 this year.

The two kanji that make up the word come from the words 「季節」,meaning season, and 「分ける」,meaning "to divide".

A familliar custome on the day is to eat an uncut sushi roll called 「恵方巻き」,which is believed to bring good luck. When doing so, one should be facieng a particular direction. This year the recommended direction is north-northwest.
